About me

My name is Louis Kolter, I'm 18 and I'm from Brighton. This year I have been studing Level 3 Media at DV8. I chose this course because my goal is to work in the radio industry, particularly at a radio station, on the technical/engineering side. Since there are very few radio studies courses, as it is a specific area, and that radio is a part of the media industry, I thought that the best thing to do first, is to get a broad idea of the whole industry of media, that way I can gain and expand my knowledge and experience in all areas of media, which I can benefit from a lot in the future when I go into the more specific radio area, I will also have the ability to work in all different areas of media.

This is my first year of the 2 year course, so far I have learned about and created my own podcast, brand, digital content such as promotional images, artwork and logos, which indudes photography, social media, marketing and trends on the internet, I have created my own vlog, learning about both the pre-production, including storyboards, moodboards, research and scripts, the production process and about all the media equipment, cameras, microphones, lighting etc. and how to use them.

I have learned to use new pieces of editing software and the best techniques to use the software technology to produce the best results, I have learned a bit about camera angles and techniques used in film and cinema like hyperlapse, having the oppertunity to try it out myself as part of creating my own music video, most of which was produced during the lockdown, and now I have set up and designed this very website. I have learned and gained all of these skills in the past year from being on this course which has given me a great amount of experience.

As already mentioned, my main interest is in radio. If someone asks me what it is about radio that interests me, I couldn't say specifically as it is just about everything from what goes on in the radio stations to how radio is transmitted and received, to the physics behind how radio waves work, my favourite and only hobby is DXing, which is about receiving radio stations from far away. I also enjoy visiting transmitters, towers and masts, but I have already been to every one in the area, so I'm starting to venture further to see the ones that I haven't been to.

As part of my radio interest, I have always been into music, I enjoy listening to a wide range of genres including Europop. My biggest ambition is to work in a radio station, as mentioned earlier, but also to learn as many new skills as I can that will be useful to me in life. Of course I want to do some good in the world, so I will try and incorporate whatever I end up doing or working into something that others can benefit from.
